Lung–burning fun for all at the Mammoth Caldera Burn – a ski mountaineering challenge. Starting from The Mill at Mammoth Mountain, participants will skin their way through five ascents on Mammoth Mountain to complete this battle against themselves and the terrain. Ski mountaineering (ski mo), a high-altitude up and down challenge imported from Europe, is rapidly becoming one of the hottest new winter sports in North America.
The Short Course is perfect for backcountry skiers of any skill level interested in learning new aspect of the sport. The Long Course is designed to showcase Mammoth's steep, technical skiing.
Online registration closes at 11:59pm PT on Wednesday, April 24th. There will be walk-up registration available during bib pick-up (location TBD) on Friday, April 26th from 4-7pm. There will be no walk-up or on-site registration on the morning of the race. Category changes must be made by the end of bib pick-up on Friday, no changes will be allowed the morning of the race.

Bib pick-up will be from 4-7pm on Friday, April 26th at TBD. There is a mandatory racer meeting at 6 pm during bib pick-up. If you are absolutely unable to pick-up your bib on Friday evening, please email raceadmin@mammothresorts.com to make other arrangements. There will be last-minute bib pick-up available on race day from 6:30 - 7 am. Any bibs not picked up by 7am on race day will be marked a DNS and unable to participate.
All bibs will be checked at the Start area prior to the race start. Please plan to start lining up in the Start corral at 7:10 am.
Course Descriptions & Links
Long course 4,500 feet of gain.
Short course 2,250 feet of gain.
Skin up Lost in the Woods, bend right to join Solitude. Ascend Solitude to Roma's Road to the top of Chair 9. Remove skins, ski down Ricochet. Transition, skin up Dagon's Alley. Bend left toward the bottom of Dragon's Back #2, transition from skinning to booting. Boot to Dragon's Back #2. Transition back to skinning. Skin to the top of Dave's Run. Transition and ski down Dave's Run, Roma's Rd., Solitude and onto Downhill. Transition back to skins under Avy 2. After a short skin, transition to booting. Boot up the Avy Two/Three ridge. At the summit of Lincoln Mountain, remove skins and Descend Avy 1. At the bottom of Avy 1, transition to skinning, traverse under the chairline of chair 4. At the top of Lost in the Woods, rip skins and ski to the finish.
Skin up Lost in the Woods, bend right to join Solitude. Ascend Solitude, bend left to the top of chair 10. Remove skins, descend Canyon Connector to Haven't the Foggiest to Holiday. At the end of Holiday, transition to skins and ascend Gold Hill to Quicksilver to Relief to the top of Sunset. At the top of Sunset rip skins and traverse toward Avy 3. Descend Avy 3, under the chairline of 16 and down Lost in the Woods to the finish.
