We're sorry, but online registration is not allowed for this activity. Please contact us during regular business hours for registration information.

This course is ideal for anyone looking for a fun, active, and challenging job or someone who just wants to make sure the family is safe when around water. This class will teach you what you need to know to be prepared to work at an aquatic facility. You will learn about emergency action plans, how to initiate them, and how to respond to emergencies on land and in the water.

Requirements: The following prerequisites are to be completed prior to registering for the Lifeguard Course.

  1. Swim a distance of 300 yards, continuously, using a front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both swimming styles. Swimming on the back or side is not allowed.

  2. Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs. Hands should be placed under the armpits or above the water.

  3. Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of a 10-13 foot pool depth, return to the surface and swim the 20 yards back to the starting point. Both hands need to be holding the brick while keeping the face at or near the surface to breathe. The candidates head should NOT be submerged for the return swim.

  4. Must be 15 years of age by the completion of this course to be Lifeguard Certified. The City of Lubbock Aquatics Policy requires a minimum age of 16 for the hiring of pool lifeguards.
