Description
Francophonie Celebration: Special Short Film ScreeningAs part of our Francophonie Celebration, join us for a special evening featuring the award-winning short film The Boy with White Skin (L’enfant à la peau blanche).
Thursday, March 5
The evening will begin with a special presentation by Mame Toucouleur MBaye, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Senegal in Los Angeles, followed by the screening and a Q&A.
Set deep inside a gold mine in Senegal, The Boy with White Skin is an award-winning short film by French director Simon Panay. The film follows Issa, a young boy brought by his father to a group of miners who believe he possesses special powers that can lead them to gold. As Issa is lowered into the mine, fear and tradition collide, revealing the heavy cost placed on a child in the name of belief.
Shot in near-total darkness and praised for its immersive atmosphere, the film offers a powerful reflection on myth, labor, and human belief.
