Foundations: Back to Basics Fine Art Skills with Ingrid VanSlyke January 25th from 10:00AM to 2:00PM $90 per student This class is designed to strengthen core painting skills and build confidence through a return to fundamental principles. Students will review essential drawing and composition concepts that support successful paintings. Instructions will include understanding value contrast, selecting and using photo references that translate well into paintings, and exploring a variety of paint-mixing techniques. The class will also cover different painting applications and approaches to surface handling. Additional topics covered include: Basic composition- How to arrange elements on the surface of canvas or paper How to improve on and use reference photos How to make a value scale and how exactly value is most important in painting Positive and negative space Basic color theory This course is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced artists looking to refresh their foundational skills. Materials included- Drawing paper, pencils, handouts, black and white paint. Students should bring their own sketchbooks and painting materials - acrylic, oil, or watercolor. Students should bring several photos they would like to discuss making into a painting
