About this event
Overshot Weaving with Susan Sebring May 12 11:00-3:00 May 15 11:00-2:00 May 19, 26, June 2 11:00-1:30 June 29 11:00-1:30 Overshot is a derivative of twill that provides an astounding variety of patterning on only four shafts. It was a very common weave in colonial times for the home weaver who usually possessed a four-harness loom. Many traditional drafts have been passed down and are still used today. In this four-week course the students will learn how to design, draft and weave an Overshot project such as a wall hanging, a table runner or a project of their choice. Students will be free to use the studio to work on their projects during the four weeks. Timeline Breakdown Tuesday May 12 11am to 3pm with a break for a bag lunch Lecture - What is overshot Drafting and designing Materials Friday May 15 11am – 2pm (bag lunch) Instructor supported time to check draft designs and warp looms Tuesday May 19, May 26, June 2 11am – 1:30 pm Instructor supported weaving time Friday June 29 Critique of finished projects and celebration Instructor Bio Susan Sebring first took a Weaving class as an elective in college and quickly became hooked and spent all her free time in the weaving studio. Soon after college she bought a floor loom and continued to weave at home. Overshot became one of the first weaving discipline that she embraced, much to the enrichment of her friends, who now own Overshot coverlets, wall hangings and table runners.
