Join SCUBAPRO and Mote Marine Laboratory as a citizen scientist and receive hands-on opportunities to make a positive difference in the health of our coral reef system with Southpoint divers in Key West! Spend the morning learning about coral reef science and Mote’s science-based research to create genetically identical duplicates that grow as much as 50x faster than a natural coral. Dive activities will include helping to maintain Mote’s expansive in-water nurseries, and monitoring coral health. Activities will be dependent on water and weather conditions. Please note this is a basic dive-only program, and our traditional “coral restoration experience” with land based components, such as coral microfragmentation, only takes place at select coral nursery facilities- please see the registration portal for information on this program. Price includes a coral restoration workshop, a 2-tank dive, and a citizen science card. Note: Scuba equipment rental is included and can be arranged through Southpoint divers dive shop. Tanks and dive weight will be provided. Ages: 15+ for divers; participants age 15-17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
