About this event
"While our instructor will demonstrate how to cut a spoon blank from a green log, we will use prepared spoon blanks in this class in order to dive right into knife handling skills. Our instructor will introduce a variety of techniques for effectively wielding a slojd knife to whittle the outer shape of the spoon, and a hook knife to carve the bowl. Students may also use drawknives on a shave horse to shape their spoons. At the end of class, students will be given instructions on how to allow their spoon to safely dry, and how to make the finishing cuts on their dry spoon. Students will carve a rough spoon from a hewn greenwood blank. Final spoon finishing will take place at home after the rough spoons have been allowed to dry. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission."
