Overview: This course is an introduction to basic woodworking joinery. In this class you will build a functional and beautiful box out of your choice of domestic hardwoods using a splined miter joint. This workshop will cover safe power and hand tool use, a variety of jigs used to cut parts for your box, and simple and effective finishing techniques. We will also spend time discussing wood and its properties so you can design and build strong and functional woodworking projects on your own. Project Description: In this course, students will build a box constructed of hardwood using a splined miter joint with contrasting wood for the splines. Students will veneer the plywood bottom and set it in a groove in the sides. The top is inset in a rabbet in the sides. The box is finished with oil and wax. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission.
