This class will be broken into two parts. On the first day we will build a cutting board, learning about the properties of wood and wood processing skills. After our cutting boards are glued up, planed, and finished, we’ll turn up the heat with the British Blacksmith and learn blacksmithing techniques like drawing out, bending, twisting, and more to create an herb chopper to take home with you. As an introduction to bladesmithing, we will cover correct hammer technique, and use of anvils, vises, and tongs. In this class, we’ll build a strip style cutting board and an herb chopper that is ideal for use in the kitchen to chop herbs, cut vegetables, and slice cheese. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission.
