Description
There are various options for paying for long-term care: private pay, long-term-care insurance, Medicaid, and VA benefits. While Medicare sometimes pays the costs of long-term care for a while, it never pays for an extended nursing home stay. Medicaid is the program that pays for long-term care, but it can be a confusing program to understand, especially when you are in the middle of a health crisis or caring for someone who is. In this interactive session, we will talk about how qualifying for Medicaid works for people who are married and single. Specifically, we will discuss the division of assets, the options for spending down assets, the five-year look-back period for making gifts, and the exceptions to the gifting rules.
