About this event
Description
Stationary Birding
Enjoy relaxing stationary birding at the Holliday Park Nature Center. This event prioritizes accessibility, so everyone is welcome to bird in a way that is comfortable for them. We’ll start at the indoor bird viewing room, where we can observe birds at outdoor feeders. We’ll also have the option to head to the pollinator garden or scenic overlook just outside of the building afterwards, weather and time permitting. No birding experience required. This is a great opportunity to observe birds up close from indoors and notice their visual and audible details. There will be sound speakers to hear the birds from inside. Binoculars, monoculars, and field guides will be available to borrow.
This event is part of Birdability Week, a celebration of birders with disabilities and other health concerns, as well as an opportunity to share resources and ideas to help the birding community become accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everybody. It will be led by Nicole O’Neal, a local birder and Outdoor Afro volunteer leader, with support from Michelle Morton, a local birder and certified nature and forest therapy guide and Access Birding outing leader. Both Nicole and Michelle have completed the Certified Access Birding Outing Leader course.
