About this event

Description

The first class will be an introduction to the periods art history, each with an explanation of its major driving concept, world event, or points of experimentation or innovation. Then, on the second week, we will have a walk through Newfields collections including further discussion. Students will examine works in the collection, and choose a work of art and artist that they would like to reimagine. Students should research the artist, his/her time period of art, and a bit about any innovation or societal thinking of the time. The remaining five weeks will used for creating and examining the concept of art, how to look at art, and its importance for individuals and humanity. How early painters used the fourth plane to create motion in their works - creating movement as in a movie. Weekly discussions will include artist pigments, substrate materials, and innovations through the ages. Additional information about notable artists and their lives, photo references and a reading list will be provided.
Reimagining could reference personal experience, symbols or stories from myths and legends, religion, portraiture, urban or family living.
Artworks can be in any medium.
