This independent study course offers students the opportunity to explore relief printmaking in depth through self-directed projects and individualized instruction. Working with traditional and contemporary techniques such as linocut, woodcut, and experimental relief methods, students will refine their technical skills and develop their personal artistic vision. Prior experience in block printing is recommended. This course is ideal for artists seeking focused studio time, technical growth, and mentorship

Learn all about the oldest printmaking technique in this extensive, 15 week block printing class! You will learn the basics of relief printing and also have the studio time to create at least a couple editions of your very own handmade prints.
Topics Covered
In this class, you will learn how to carve linoleum blocks, how to print them with an etching press, and how to register multiple blocks so that you end up with an edition of colorful prints. Additionally, we will look at art historical examples, examine contemporary block prints, and engage in class discussions. Instruction will include lectures, demonstrations, and individual guidance from the instructor.
