The right way can be learned by studying a given set of rules, techniques, and accepted norms, but there are no such signposts to guide you when you’re going the wrong way. To go the wrong way is to have no idea where you’re going or what you’ll find at the end. Even though it may lead to exciting art that surprises even you, many of us so uncomfortable with that kind of unknown, we end up staying safe within the comfort of the right way, or worse, feeling that there is no point in trying make art at all without those established guides in sight. This course focuses on drawing, painting, and collage, no matter your specific medium. It is all about developing an affinity for going the wrong way in your art making, and finding out what you’ve been missing at the other end. It is not about learning how to use any given medium. It is about developing your creative instincts and comfort level when it comes to experimenting and making a mess in search your creative capacities and unique artistic voice and style. The course is for: • Those who have little or no training, a huge urge to make art, and no idea how to get started, as well as those who are good at doing things the right way, but would like to see more excitement, meaning, and life in their work. • Those who have no idea what medium they want to work with, as well as those who are well established with a medium they love. • Those who want to explore mediums they haven’t used before. A variety of mediums, supports, and miscellaneous supplies will be provided, but if you are seeking to up your creativity using something specific, you may want to bring that along. And if you’ve purchased materials you want to try but can’t seem to get yourself started with them, bring them; this would be a great opportunity to give yourself a kickstart.
