About this event
The Middle School Forensics Club is for students interested in learning more about Forensics through practice and competition at the MIFA Middle Level Forensics Tournament on Saturday, May 6, 2023. Forensics is a combination of performing arts and public speaking comprising twelve distinct events split broadly into two branches - Interpretation categories and Public Address categories. In Interpretation categories, students perform the work of another author. These categories include Poetry, Prose, Dramatic, and Original Interpretations, Storytelling, and Duo and Multiple Interpretations. In Public Address categories, students are the authors of the material which they present. These categories include Impromptu and Extemporaneous speaking, Broadcasting, Informative, Oratory, and Sales. There are also three categories where 5th and 6th graders are judged separately from the 7th and 8th graders. This gives the younger students an opportunity to compete on a level playing field with only each other. This year, those categories are Storytelling, Duo, and Informative. Practices will typically be held at the Middle School between 6:30-8:00pm Monday through Thursday, although there may be a Friday or weekend practice time thrown in here and there. Students do not need to be at every practice, and they are not required to stay for the entire practice time. They are encouraged to come as often as they can.
