Dear Parents and Members of the Golf Program,As we approach the beginning of the “competitive” season for our golf program, we thought it would be a good time to let you know a few things about what to expect. The biggest reminder is that our middle school golf program includes no instruction. While there are programs out there and numerous instructors to choose from to gain instruction, our program’s focus is for the kids to learn about the game of golf and learn how to behave appropriately on a golf course. We have a course monitor, Mr. Howard Kaplan, that helps the kids stay on track and ensure proper etiquette on the course.Through your registration for the Hillsborough Recreation golf program, you will receive eight rounds of golf: Three (3) practice rounds which can be played at any time, five (5) league weeks which will be played on the designated league days. For the league weeks, your child should choose either Monday or Tuesday as their designated day to play at Mariner’s Point Golf Center, and should email that decision to Mr. G. (In the event that a player needs to make a change for a certain week due to a conflict, they should let Mr. G know the week before.) For the practice rounds, they should call Mariner’s Point ahead of time to schedule a tee time and let them know they are a part of the Crocker program. They do not need to do this for the league matches.Players need to show up at Mariner’s between 3:40 and 4:10 on their day of play. Once they arrive they should check in with the Hillsborough Recreation course monitor who will be stationed near the first tee to let them know that they have arrived. Players who arrive first will be given the earliest starting times. If a player wishes to check in and then go to the range to practice, they should tell the coaches of their intention to do so. You should plan for the round to last about 90 minutes from the beginning of play, not from when the player was dropped off. Your child is encouraged to carpool to and from with other parents. Please be reasonable when picking up as the coaches/supervisors are expected to stay until everyone from the league play has left. These five rounds of golf are not intended to have parents or relatives or family friends of a player walk around with the player’s group to provide instruction or training. Those people may watch the players from certain strategic places on the course, but they may want to check in with Mariner’s regarding liability of being injured by stray golf balls. Feel free to have the players drop their golf bags off in the Recreation Office on the morning of the day of play if it is makes things more convenient. They may pick up their bags at the end of the school day.As always, feel free to contact us should you have any questions. Rounds of golf are expected to be played rain or shine, but if you are uncertain, you may contact the Recreation Department for any updates.Regards,Tony Giacomazzi and Coach KaplanLeague Match Dates–(no play on 4/22–4/23 due to start of Passover)Week 14/15–4/16Week 24/29–4/30Week 35/6–5/7Week 45/13–5/14Week 55/20–5/21Grades
