Experience Required. Focused on sculling, but may sweep depending on attendance numbers. Arrive by 8:45 for 9:00am launch. Indicate attendance availability using iCrew. A few common questions: Are we on land, or on the water for the spring season?" The answer is (probably) both. Our goal is to get our classes on the water as frequently as possible, but we are constrained by limitations outside our control. With particular attention on weather (temperature, wind, precipitation, visibility), river conditions (height, speed, and amount of debris), and the athletes' ages and ability levels coaches will make the judgment on the safety of getting on the water for a given session. Always be prepared and dress/pack for both possibilities. We understand that "safe" and "desirable" are not necessarily the same thing (50 degrees and raining is safe but unpleasant if properly dressed, for example) If the coach determines that it is safe to practice, athletes will be given the opportunity to choose whether they prefer to practice indoors or outdoors. Coaches will not force athletes who feel uncomfortable/ unsafe to go on the river; depending on whether or not there is an assistant coach athletes who prefer to erg may need to do so without coaching (if the majority of athletes prefer to go outside). Anticipate that practices early in the season are likely to be on land and that as we get further and further into April practices are more and more likely to be on the water.
