City Park Plein Air Art Festival

Theme: History is in our Nature
Calling all artists, City Park welcomes you to participate in an open-air day of creativity. Artists are invited to bring your own supplies and create paintings, drawings, and sketches of City Park scenery.
This year there will be three levels available to participate:
  • Basic Level- Free to paint at City Park! Registration includes signing the event waiver, included on the artist roster, and receive up-to-date info about the event.
  • Exhibition Level- $10 registration secures your painting to be exhibited at either the Valley Art Association or Washington County Arts Council
  • Juried Competition Level- $20 registration to participate in the Juried Competition hosted by WCMFA.

Juried Competition Details:
Artists participating in the City Park Plein Air Festival are invited to submit their completed artwork for consideration in a special juried exhibition at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts. Selected works will be displayed in the Museum's Community Art Cases, offering artists the opportunity to showcase their work in a museum setting and share their unique interpretation of the festival with visitors.Eligibility Requirements: Artwork must be created as part of the City Park Plein Air Festival. All painting surfaces must be stamped at the Plein Air Registration Table before work begins.Submission Process: All entries must be submitted electronically no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026.Jury Process: A panel of museum representatives and arts professionals will review all eligible submissions. Selected works will be exhibited in the Museum's Community Art Cases from August 25 through September 22, 2026. Artists whose work is selected will be contacted with artwork delivery instructions by August 14th. Work that has been selected must be delivered by the artist by August 21st. Art work pick up will begin September 29thAwards & Recognition: As this is the inaugural year of the Plein Air Exhibition, cash awards are not guaranteed. If registration numbers and sponsorship support allow, the Museum may offer one or more cash awards. Any cash prizes will be announced following the close of registration and prior to jurying. Regardless of cash awards, selected artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in a juried museum exhibition and receive recognition through Museum promotional channels. The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts reserves the right to adjust award categories based on participation levels and available funding.

General Registration opens at 9am at the Jonathan Hager House located at 110 Key Street. Artists are welcomed to spread throughout the park. Those participating in the Juried Competition will need to stamp their canvas at check-in.
