The Instructors-in-Training program is a leadership and professional development camp for students in Grades 9-10 interested in STEM, education, and mentorship. Participants build transferable skills through hands-on learning, workshops, and real-world experience. Campers develop strengths in communication, leadership, collaboration, and time management, while gaining experience designing and supporting STEM activities for younger students. The program also includes guidance from topic professionals during mentor visits. Prior sessions included workshops from HR professionals about developing resumes and preparing for interviews, as well as exploring all that UofG has to offer led by faculty members.
This program is 2-weeks long. In Week 1, campers will be guided by a CE Coordinator through opportunities for personal and professional growth. In Week 2, they’ll be placed in our camp rooms as camp volunteers to apply what they have learned. Week 2 counts for volunteer hours, with campers able to earn all 40 volunteer hours required to graduate high school while having fun at camp!
Instructors in Training is for youth entering Grades 9 & 10 in September 2026.
Camp will take place Monday-Friday from 9 AM-4 PM. This summer we are offering Extended Care (optional, for an additional flat fee) in which campers can be dropped off starting at 8:10 AM and picked up any time between 4-4:50 PM. You can opt into Extended Care upon registering a camper for a given camp week. Please note that campers in grade 6 or higher are permitted to be designated for “Self Sign-Out” of themselves and younger siblings. For more information, please visit our website (www.uoguelph.ca/creative-encounters/).
Please do not hesitate to email us at cse@uoguelph.ca if you have any questions and we will get back to you as soon as we can. We are looking forward to another amazing summer of in-person STEM camps!
All of our camps are based out of Albert A. Thornbrough and Richards Building (Engineering Buildings on the U of G’s main campus) unless stated otherwise.
Parents/guardians will be emailed a “Pre-Camp Package” prior to camp with specific pick-up/drop-off locations and further details.
