About this event
Description
Internet Registration has not begun yet. Check Registration Dates in details.
In Jr. Game Design, campers in Grades 4-5 will be introduced to the fundamentals of coding and the creative process behind making a video game.
Campers will explore basic programming concepts such as sequencing, logic, and cause-and-effect while learning how game elements work together. Through hands-on activities and guided challenges, campers will practice coding small parts of a game, including characters, movement, and interactions, while gaining an understanding of the overall game design process.
Expect to see: introduction to coding through interactive activities, exploration of game mechanics and design concepts, hands-on practice coding small game elements, and opportunities to learn from University of Guelph computer science and/or software engineering mentors!
This camp is capped at 10 campers per session to maximize 1-on-1 support, with afternoons being spent indoors in the computer lab.
Jr. Game Design is for youth entering Grades 4 & 5 in September 2026.
Camp will take place Monday-Friday from 9 AM-4 PM. This summer we are offering Extended Care (optional, for an additional flat fee) in which campers can be dropped off starting at 8:10 AM and picked up any time between 4-4:50 PM. You can opt into Extended Care upon registering a camper for a given camp week. Please note that campers in Grade 6 or higher are permitted to be designated for “Self Sign-Out” of themselves and younger siblings. For more information, please visit our website (www.uoguelph.ca/creative-encounters/).
Please do not hesitate to email us at cse@uoguelph.ca if you have any questions and we will get back to you as soon as we can. We are looking forward to another amazing summer of in-person STEM camps!
All of our camps are based out of Albert A. Thornbrough and Richards Building (Engineering Buildings on the U of G’s main campus) unless stated otherwise.
Parents/guardians will be emailed a “Pre-Camp Package” prior to camp with specific pick-up/drop-off locations and further details.
