Description

Internet Registration has not begun yet. Check Registration Dates in details.

Enter the Matrix and master the language of computers all while planning, designing, and bringing your very own video game to life! Game Design focuses on skills related to computer programming and software implementation, specifically targeting the development of video games.

Campers will learn how to create objects, characters, game interactions, controls, and more. In addition, non-programming skills related to gaming will be developed, such as conceptualizing gameplay and themes. Throughout the program, campers will have opportunities to engage with UofG computer science and/or software engineering mentors, gaining insight into those fields.
Expect to see: Hands-on computer programming focused on video game development, designing characters, objects, and interactive game environments, coding gameplay mechanics, controls, and player interactions, creative planning of game themes, stories, and user experience, and opportunities to learn from UofG computer science and/or software engineering mentors!
This camp is capped at 10 campers per session to maximize 1-on-1 support, and primarily takes place indoors aside from lunch and snack breaks.
Game Design is for youth entering Grades 6, 7 & 8 in September 2026.
Camp will take place Monday-Friday from 9 AM-4 PM. This summer we are offering Extended Care (optional, for an additional flat fee) in which campers can be dropped off starting at 8:10 AM and picked up any time between 4-4:50 PM. You can opt into Extended Care upon registering a camper for a given camp week. Please note that campers in Grade 6 or higher are permitted to be designated for “Self Sign-Out” of themselves and younger siblings. For more information, please visit our website (www.uoguelph.ca/creative-encounters/).
Please do not hesitate to email us at cse@uoguelph.ca if you have any questions and we will get back to you as soon as we can. We are looking forward to another amazing summer of in-person STEM camps!
All of our camps are based out of Albert A. Thornbrough and Richards Building (Engineering Buildings on the U of G’s main campus) unless stated otherwise.
Parents/guardians will be emailed a “Pre-Camp Package” prior to camp with specific pick-up/drop-off locations and further details.
