About this event
Explore the magic of portrait and figure watercolor with Charleston-based artist Mary Whyte in an inspiring two-day workshop for her first time teaching in Greenville, SC. Mary will cover the fundamentals of mixing clean colors, planning dynamic compositions, achieving likeness, balancing value, and creating paintings with emotion. Mary's daily painting demonstrations from three live model stations and one-on-one assistance will guide you toward making your best paintings ever. All skill levels are welcome! Lunch is included at GCCA each day, along with a light breakfast of scones, coffee, and tea. Space is limited to 20. Supplies: Students are responsible for their own supplies. The Mary Whyte Workshop Supply List and an Information Sheet with details will be provided upon registration. Please bring your travel easel. Schedule: Friday, October 2, and Saturday, October 3, 2026, 9 am - 4 pm, with provided lunch from 12:30 - 1:15. Optional Events: Book talk with Mary on Friday from 4:30-5 pm. Afterwards, stay and enjoy SC Water Media Juried Show Opening at GCCA’s Nighshifts from 5-8 pm. Traveling to Greenville, SC: A list of hotels close to the workshop location will be provided upon request.
