About this event
Instructor: Paul Walters Skill Level: Any Level Ages: 12+ Medium: Drawing Total Class Hours: 6 Description: Learn how to draw realistic, proportional portraits from a photograph in just two weeks. This class breaks portrait drawing down into clear, repeatable steps so students can understand how to build a face from simple structure to finished detail. In Week 1, students will focus on foundational drawing skills, including head proportions, facial structure, value mapping, and observational techniques such as plumb lines and alignment. These exercises are designed to train the eye to see accuracy rather than symbols. In Week 2, students will apply these skills to a finished portrait drawing using a reference photo of their choice. Instruction will include the grid method, refining likeness, and building realistic value and texture in a guided, step-by-step process. Each student will receive individual feedback throughout their drawing. By the end of the course, students will have completed at least one fully rendered, realistic portrait and gained a repeatable process for continuing portrait drawing on their own.
