Learn about flying cargo and passengers, including scientists, around the remote continent of Antarctica. The speaker is a United States Navy Polar Aircraft Commander who flew down on the continent nicknamed “THE ICE” for 3 seasons in the 1980s. He flew from the ice runway and Skiway at McMurdo Station Antarctica to numerous bases such as the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, as well as many smaller science camps in remote areas that required landings on skis. The presentation will consist of several videos detailing the history of Navy Antarctic aviation accomplishments and he will discuss the many challenges and dangers associated with Antarctic Flying.
