Experience level is beginner, but intermediate weavers can be challenged with advanced techniques. Part of your workshop experience will be learning about the plant fibres, their names, how to collect them, process, store, and prepare them for weaving, as well as important aspects of environmentally sustainable collection methods. MATERIALS: Please Bring: - scissors - measuring tape - spray bottle - a hand towel. - Lunch & Snacks - Optional - any plant fibres or other textiles that you might like to incorporate in your basket. Provided: - All plant materials About the instructor Nationally acclaimed Canadian plant fibre artist, Ralph Simpson, has developed an innovative method of weaving and sculpting plant fibre into pleasing sculptural forms. Ralph holds an MSc. from UNB in Forest Research Biology, and a Diploma in Fine Craft from NBCCD. Ralph is an award-winning artist who calls Fredericton home and uses the flora of New Brunswick to inform his work and creative process. His work varies in form and style but what resonates in all his work is an underlying investigation into ways that plant materials can be used to spark interest and insight into the natural world. www.plantfibreartist.com
