Norlands is a multifaceted museum offering in-depth experiences in 18th & 19th century rural life. The program we are going to experience is called Meal, Laugh, and Learn. We start at the Norlands site in their one-room schoolhouse where a charming interpreter will play the part of a 1870's school marm, and we play the part of students. Then we have a luncheon prepared by their cook and farmer. Meal may consist of a chicken pot pie, coleslaw, pickled beets, cornbread and a seasonal dessert. After meal we go to the manor house for a tour and to hear the interactive story of the Washburn family, the outsized mark that one nuclear family from humble Livermore was able to leave on U.S. History.
