Join us as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with our viewing of El Norte. El Norte follows Guatemalan siblings Enrique and Rosa as they escape persecution and undertake a perilous journey through Mexico to the U.S., driven by hopes of a better life. Mixing social realism with dreamlike imagery, it offers a deeply human perspective on immigration rarely seen in cinema. Lauded for its poetic visuals, emotional power, and groundbreaking depiction of undocumented workers, it earned an Oscar nomination, gained preservation in the National Film Registry, and is often called essential viewing for its cultural and historical resonance.
After the film, stay for an engaging discussion on embracing life's unexpected journey's, the value of friendship, and finding purpose at every stage of life.
Drop-in for the popcorn and relaxed atmosphere. Those interested in taking a deeper dive can stay for an optional post-movie discussion of topics like character, themes, production and media representation.
