The Soundtrack of Our Lives: Boomer Influences
“Boomers,” defined as individuals born between 1946 and 1964, have experienced a very different life than their parents [as well as their own children and grandchildren]. Whether raised with Depression or World War II values, they came of age recognized as a new demographic, “teenagers.” Historic audio and music combine to tell how mass media such as television, icons like John Wayne and James Dean, and heroes such Annette and Mickey Mantle, shaped their values. Listeners will be reminded of how the atom bomb, the scourge of polio, and technologies that gave us computers and transistor radios affected their lives. School desegregation, juvenile delinquency and rock ‘n’ roll are also part of the mix, and you will hear Alan Freed and Dick Clark on their musical impact . All this plus Howdy Doody, the Mouseketeers, Elvis, Chuck Berry and much more! Presenter: Hugo Kessing
