Opera is back!!Fitness Center Classroom

May 23: Carmen: Arguably about the second most popular opera, Carmen by Georges Bizet, is a tragic opera focusing on the romantic obsession a French army corporal has for a fiery, beautiful, gypsy Spanish woman (Carmen) in 19th century Seville, Spain. Carmen is a hot-tempered, free spirit hellbent on her individual freedom. She is not to be tied down to any man, not even don Jose (the corporal). She is a tease, though and initially seduces don Jose but then discards him, like so many of her previous lovers, when she encounters her next male conquest, Escamillo, the toreador. Driven mad with jealousy, don Jose demands Carmen to love only him, or nobody. You can see where the finale of this nearly three hour opera is heading....... This opera contains numerous familiar melodies you are bound to recognize.
