Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans and their lasting impact on the United States in areas such as politics, arts, science, and civil rights. The observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded to a month-long celebration in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan.
