Healthcare Careers in Action: Rural Practice

In partnership with Youth Interagency, the Attraction and Retention Committee (ARC), and the Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP), this free, hands-on event invites students in Grades 9–12 to explore the wide range of careers that make a rural hospital work.
Hosted at the Edson Healthcare Centre, students will learn alongside local physicians, healthcare professionals, and learners from the Northern Alberta Medical Program (NAMP). Participants will rotate through interactive skill stations, including suturing on pork hocks, airway management, ultrasound-guided IVs, intraosseous access, patient lifts/transfers, and more. The day also includes lunch, presentations, and a hospital tour.
This event highlights careers across the entire healthcare system, including nursing, medicine, allied health, diagnostics, administration, maintenance, and support services. It is designed to help youth better understand how rural healthcare teams work together and to explore potential career pathways close to home. Come try it out, ask questions, and imagine your future in healthcare!

Registration is required through ActiveNet. Lunch and snacks are provided. Waiver required.
Registration deadline is March 19th.
Please note that this program is geared toward local registrants (Edson and Yellowhead County). If you live outside these areas, please reach out to NicoleT@edson.ca to be placed on a standby list, in case space is available closer to the deadline.
