About this event
Instructor: Laura Kneib Welcome spring into your home with this hands-on class where you’ll craft a Flat Shaker Broom that is both practical and full of handmade charm. Perfect for keeping floors tidy or adding a cheerful touch to your kitchen, each broom is built around a one-of-a-kind, hand-gathered stick collected from forests, riverbanks, and lakeshores. Some even show marks of beaver activity, making every broom completely unique. Using traditional broom tying techniques, you’ll shape 12 inches of flexible broomcorn below the stitching line for a sturdy, functional broom. All materials are provided and no prior experience is needed, just your creativity and enthusiasm. No experience necessary. All materials included. Step into the art of traditional broom making with artisan H. Laura Kneib. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the basics of the craft, hear a bit about its history, and create your own handmade broom using natural materials and time honored techniques. All tools and materials are provided. Please bring a towel to protect your lap while working with soaked broomcorn, and feel free to bring dried flowers or small decorations to make your broom your own. Broom making does require good upper body and hand strength. Laura brings decades of experience in traditional homesteading and heritage crafts and is deeply committed to preserving these skills and sharing them with others. At the end of the registration, a pop up will appear for something called Active Advantage. This is not part of our program. It does not provide benefits for our students and it does not affect your enrollment in any way. Please click no and complete your registration. If you click yes by mistake, please contact PVAEC as soon as possible so we can help you cancel it.
