Instructor Jessica Steele Wild basketry is an ancient craft that involves weaving natural materials such as grasses, leaves, wood, vines, and tree bark into functional and decorative containers. In this class, we’ll review how to collect, process, and create baskets using locally sourced plants. Some of the materials we may use include cattail, pine needles, birch bark, ash, pine bark, willow, grasses, red osier dogwood, and grapevine. This will be an interactive, hands-on class featuring a presentation and basket-making demonstrations. Students will have the opportunity to work with some of the materials and create a basket. A handout will be provided with information on the materials and patterns. Learn a skill for life and become a wild basket maker. All materials are included.
