Keeping a naturalist’s sketchbook is a hobby that requires minimal equipment and expense but can bring great life satisfaction and a fresh perspective on the natural world around you. In this indoor class, naturalist Laurel Dodge will introduce you to pen and ink, colored pencil, and watercolor art techniques and the many styles available to illustrate your nature journal. Using her wide-ranging collection of nature specimens, you will learn to truly see the intricate beauty and complex forms of plants and animals. Artistic talent is not necessary to keep a naturalist’s sketchbook. All that is needed is a sense of wonder and a desire to learn more about nature. Laurel Dodge has a master’s degree in environmental studies and has worked at nature centers, land trusts and a zoo.
