Animal Club, a Jane Goodall Roots and Shoots extension, will explore ideas of animals and the environment through a variety of art and literacy projects, as well as guest speakers and volunteer work. Together, we’ll research and learn about animals from all over the world, including cats and dogs in local animal shelters to endangered animals in different parts of the world. Following, we’ll immerse ourselves in projects including, but not limited to: reading to dogs and cats at local animal shelters; collecting needed supplies and raising funds for animals in need; creating and stringing paper cranes to send to the Children’s Peace Monument honoring Sadako Sasaki in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Japan; listening to St. Louis Zoo specialists share their experience working on the French Polynesian Partula snail project, etc. Our emphasis will be on encouraging and practicing kindness, respect, and empathy towards all living creatures.
