SPANISH LANGUAGE AND IDIOM´S DELIGHT
“(…) even though we never shared the same language, we have often shared the same thoughts.” (Brock)
Due to their great richness, phraseological units are present in our conversations, in songs and movies, in advertising and in newspapers. The aim of this course is to focus on the study of phraseology as a platform for learning different language aspects: grammar, vocabulary, syntactic structures, culture, history and literature.
Both native English and Spanish speakers cry with “crocodile tears” (lágrimas de cocodrilo), lead “a dog's life” (una vida de perro), receive or take “the lion's share” (la parte del león), take "the bull by the horns" (el toro por los cuernos) or leave "with the tail between the legs" (con el rabo entre las piernas). We do not share only collocations and sayings , but also tools that facilitate the creation and memorization of these prefabricated elements of the language, as is the case of the rhyme: “mondo y lirondo”, “por fas y por nefas”, "a lo hecho, pecho", itsy-bitsy "," teeny-weeny "," easy-peasy "," nitty-gritty ", etc.
We will present and discuss contextualized phraseological units, in activities that will offer opportunities for oral and written production. Likewise, we will provide visual input, since a clear picture is worth a thousand words. We strongly believe that the introduction of the idiomatic component from the initial levels is possible and necessary, since phraseological competence represents a relevant component within the global communicative competence . (An A2 level is required in order to complete the course)
