About this event
Pocket Documentaries is a hands-on mobile filmmaking workshop that introduces teens and young adults to documentary storytelling using the technology they already have: their phones. Students learn to develop a story idea, frame and sequence shots, conduct interviews, record clear sound, use natural audio and narration, and edit a short documentary. They explore ethical storytelling, consent, and responsible representation while developing projects about their interests, neighborhoods, cultural experiences, community issues, or PRAA’s events. The workshop draws on professional documentary and visual journalism methods, making media production accessible without requiring expensive equipment. Learning goals: *Develop documentary storytelling and media literacy. *Learn mobile video, framing, interview techniques, sound recording, and editing. *Build skills in research, listening, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. *Understand consent, privacy, and ethical representation. *Explore community stories through the perspectives of young filmmakers.
