Paddle on the Dismal Swamp Canal, adjacent to the Great Dismal Swamp a unique and mysterious place charted by George Washington's survey company in 1763. Paddlers push off into the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail and navigate their own canoes, kayaks, or stand up paddleboards from South Mills, NC, to Chesapeake along the DSCT, joining other paddlers for a picnic lunch. Paddle the Dismal Swamp Canal from North Carolina Welcome Center and State Park in South Mills, North Carolina to the Ballahack Boat Ramp in Chesapeake, Virginia. Volunteers help participants with their boats and shuttle buses carry paddlers from one site to the other. It is open to mainly canoes and kayaks (no motors). A continental breakfast is provided in the morning and a catered picnic lunch awaits paddlers at the end.
