About this event
Description
Salamanders have some of the most incredible adaptations in the animal world. They are masters of mucus - using it as an incredible defense mechanism to shield themselves and their eggs from harm. They can also use it to attack unsuspecting prey by projecting their mucus-coated tongue a great distance to grab an insect. Many even have near super-hero level of regenerative capabilities, able to regrow muscle, bone, organs, and entire limbs! There is a lot to admire and much left to discover about these amazing animals, which is why we are hosting an event at Northwest River Park to celebrate and appreciate our sensational salamanders. Come on out to learn about their incredible adaptations, have the kids enjoy some salamander-themed crafts and activities, and join us for a guided-hike along one of our trails to learn more about where salamanders call home.
Note: The program will take place outdoors, so please dress appropriately for the weather - closed-toe shoes, bug spray, and water are recommended. The hiking portion will take around 45 minutes.
