About this event
Step into the world of a Food Engineer—where science meets creativity to design how food is made, stored, and delivered. Campers take on hands-on challenges as they experiment, build, and test real-world food systems. From creating recipes to designing solutions, they’ll explore how engineers turn ingredients into the foods we eat every day. Campers will: • Design and test a solar oven, discovering how energy can be used to cook food without electricity • Make ice cream while exploring how temperature and mixing affect texture and stability • Create gummy candy from seaweed, using natural colors and flavors to see how recipes change • Build a model vertical farm and explore solutions to feeding a growing population • Experiment with composting, comparing materials and learning how soil supports food production • Taste and compare different types of honey, discovering where food really comes from Throughout the week, campers use an inquiry-based design process to solve open-ended challenges—thinking creatively, testing ideas, and improving their designs just like real engineers.
