About this event
Food Engineer is all about how science and engineering are used to design the systems that produce, package, and protect the food we eat. Campers solve design challenges, experiment, and build working models as they explore how food is made, stored, and delivered. Campers experiment with making ice cream, gummies, and cereal treats, testing how ingredients, temperature, and mixing affect texture and stability. They compare different types of honey and use natural flavors and colors to see how recipes change. Campers also design and test packaging to keep foods cold, fresh, and protected. They build and improve solar ovens, thermal insulators, water-pumping systems, window gardens, vertical farms, and an underwater food dispenser, learning how engineers solve problems related to growing, storing, and transporting food. Composting and soil experiments help them understand how food starts and how organic materials break down. This camp focuses on engineering the food system, giving campers a hands-on look at how science turns ingredients into the products we rely on every day.
