Every strong film image is built on intentional visual choices. In this project, students will explore how filmmakers use the Elements and Principles of Composition to guide the viewer’s eye, communicate meaning, and create visual impact. Through analysis, planning, and hands-on production, students will learn all 14 Elements & Principles and how they function both individually and together within a moving image. Students will conceptualize, storyboard, shoot, and edit a short demo-style video in which each Element or Principle is represented through a creative visual moment, paired with a stylized title card that reflects the same compositional idea. For example, a clip demonstrating Emphasis will be introduced by a title that visually emphasizes the word itself through scale, color, motion, or glow. This project emphasizes clarity of concept, intentional design, and creative problem-solving through cinematic composition.
