A patriotic day celebrating a rich military heritage! The Legacy 5k is hosted annually by Officer Candidates at the prestigious Georgia Military Institute, home of the Officer Candidate School for the Georgia National Guard where future military leaders are trained and commissioned. The Legacy 5k Race has become one of the cornerstone events in the Officer Candidate School program planned and executed by the Senior Officer Class. This year Class 62 carries the torch. Previous Officer Classes have attracted hundreds of participants, along with many spectators, volunteers, and members of the media. Officer Class 62 aims to break the attendance record and bring the community together for an inspirational run/walk by honoring soldiers and leaders past, present and future. The race also provides awareness of the rich military history of both the Georgia Military Institute, the State of Georgia, and their contributions to the U.S military’s primary purpose of protecting our great Nation.
About GMI
The Georgia Military Institute (GMI) was originally formed on July 1, 1851. To honor the legacy of GMI, the Georgia Army National Guard named its Officer Candidate School after it in 1961. It is based at the Clay Army National Guard Center in Marietta. A GMI graduate will receive both a state and a federally recognized reserve officer commission in the Georgia Army National Guard and US Army, respectively.

Schedule
Race day is on Sunday, May 21, 2023, with early check-in activities from 7:00 to 9:00 AM with the 1 mile Fun Run set to start at 9:00 AM and the 5K at 9:30 AM.
Location
The race festival will be staged at the Etowah River Park in Canton, GA with the course following a loop on paved trails along Etowah River and Heritage Park.
