Start your puppy (10 weeks-1year) off on the right paw with our AKC STAR Puppy program! This engaging class helps young dogs and their families build a foundation in manners, confidence, and communication while working toward the AKC STAR Puppy distinction. The whole family is welcome to join in the fun, but an adult handler must be present at class. Bring a 6 ft. nylon or leather leash, a well-fitting collar and treats or toy. Copies of up-to-date rabies, bordetella, and distemper vaccinations from a veterinarian is required (breeder paperwork cannot be accepted).

Instructor: Maddi Bowen, Greenlin Pet Resorts.

Additional AKC STAR information:

One of the exciting programs that Greenlin Pet Resorts offers is the AKC S.T.A.R. program, which is run through the American Kennel Club (AKC).

S-Socialization Skills; T-Training; A-Activity; R-Responsible Owners

This program is open to puppies under the age of one year, as long as they are up to date on all their vaccinations. This program offers six sessions for your puppy to participate in. This is a great opportunity for your pup to make new friends, as all classes are taught in a group setting. However, the groups are kept small in order to ensure that everyone is able to receive the help and feedback they need to be successful.

In the S.T.A.R. program, there are four priorities that our certified trainers focus on when teaching sessions. Two of the priorities focus on your puppy - we want to ensure that your pup has the opportunity to practice socialization skills and feel comfortable around different dogs. We also want to ensure that your pup has a grasp on all basic commands, which is a strong foundation for any further training you and your family may want to pursue.

The other two goals are focused on helping educate the dog owners on how to provide their pet with appropriate and responsible care so that both owner and pup can live a long and happy life together. Specifically, the AKC wants to educate owners about the appropriate amount of exercise and activity their pup needs, as well as provide information on how to best care for the pup in various situations and scenarios. Because every dog is different, this information can be helpful for even the most veteran dog owner.

Taking the AKC course has benefits other than the excellent training for you and your pup. Upon graduation, you will receive a frameable certificate. Additionally, your pet will be added to the American Kennel Club S.T.A.R. program database, as well as an official handbook from the AKC detailing best care practices for your pup.
