This class will explore the development and performance of contemporary American popular music including listening to examples, discussion of specific representative repertoire, as well as the producers, composers, artists and performers associated with each. Significant popular musical styles of rock, jazz, folk, blues, musical theater and other genres are compared and contrasted. Lectures discuss significant trends and developments in American popular musical style as represented in contemporary society and the mainstream media. This presentation will be offered virtually and in-person. If you wish to attend virtually, you will need access to a phone or computer that has the Zoom app downloaded. Virtual class link will be emailed out 24 hours prior to the start of the class.
