About this event
Grasses function as an important part of many landscapes, beyond serving as turf lawns. Adding not only texture and height to a garden, grasses provide important habitat and food to wildlife. Learning key identification characteristics for grasses will broaden your botanizing in the wild and can help you sort through your desired plantings and weeds in your own gardens. This class will focus on grass anatomy, cool season and warm season classifications, and uses of different native and ornamental grasses in the garden. Part of the class will be spent walking the grounds, looking closely at grasses in the landscape. Students with a basic familiarity with plant anatomy can broaden their identification skills and newer students will learn a vocabulary to understand the plants they see every day.
