Clay You Can Play With Jared Hostutler Sunday October 18th from 1-4pm Join local Boston artist Jared Hostutler in a 3 hour exploration of clay instruments. This workshop is specifically focused on creating an ocarina from clay, but the techniques covered can be applied to a wide array of hand built forms. You can expect to learn more about sculpting solid objects, how to find success with hollowing out forms, and delving into the nuance of crafting a beveled airway for the sound channel of a wind instrument. What is an ocarina, you might ask? It is an ancient wind instrument similar to a whistle or flute, rife with whimsy and form versatility. Whether or not you consider yourself a musician OR an experienced potter, ocarinas are a great introductory project to getting your clay to make some noise.
