About this event
Join Michael E. Vermette for an oil painting journey that explores painting the human Portrait. Students will use techniques in oil painting to depict our beloved friends and interesting characters in our lives. Michael will demonstrate his method of painting impasto in the Venetian/Italian style as well as others styles using brush and palette knife techniques. You will learn to paint your own self portrait, your friends, as well as interesting figurative subjects in their natural and interior setting. Participants will learn different approaches that will allow the spontaneity of letting yourself go through the blending of lost and found edges, yet still being in control of the medium. Michael will demonstrate often and put you at ease with his approachable teaching style as he reveals how painters in history used various different brush and palette knife techniques to create effective portrait results. Some previous technical experience is recommended for this class and experienced artists will benefit as well with Michael’s inclusive and open style of teaching. This course will limit critique and introduction times to preserve a guarded two hours of studio block of painting time. You will love how much this inspiring course will teach you about painting the human portrait in the oil painting medium, and how it will give you a solid foundation in compositional proportions and lifelike representation.
