Description
Thoughts of childhood summers often bring up memories of warm summer nights catching fireflies. Lately, it seems that we see a lot less of these bright staples of summer. Are they disappearing? Join a naturalist for an evening that starts at the fire with a short introduction to these bioluminescent beetles. Next, take a guided hike along the trails of Hidden Oaks Preserve to discover firefly science and biology and unravel the mystery surrounding vanishing lightning bugs. We’ll end the night by the light of a campfire, where we’ll take a closer look at these incredible insects and toast marshmallows. The hike will be less than 1 mile on natural, uneven terrain with elevation changes.
