BBAC VISITING ARTIST WORKSHOP SERIES
Photography: Creative iPhoneography
2-Day Workshop w/ Armin Mersmann
When the term iPhoneography was first coined, it simply meant “the art of taking pictures with Apple’s iPhone.” While iPhones are preferred (iPhone 11 or higher recommended), other smartphones may also be used. We will cover the basics of the iPhone camera and begin working with apps to create images that rival those from DSLR cameras. But this is not a traditional photography class. Instead, the focus is on exploring creativity through the iPhone—asking not how do I take a better picture, but how can I make a more expressive and imaginative image? "What if" will be the mantra.
We will explore appstacking, photo collage, and image manipulation techniques, learning how to distort, alter, and transform photographs. The results may appear surreal, abstract, fantastical, or even antique. The possibilities are virtually endless. iPhoneography emphasizes not capturing a single decisive moment but building an image through a creative process that closely resembles painting and collage, rather than conventional photography. There is absolutely no AI used in this class.
