About this event
Description
The Experimental Studio: Mixed Media WorkshopInstructor: Visiting Artist Valerie AllenThis two-day intensive workshop is designed for artists interested in expanding their visual language through the thoughtful use of mixed media materials, acrylic paints, and textural surfaces. Working in the studio classroom setting of BBAC, participants will explore color theory, material experimentation, and compositional development through interconnected projects. Emphasis will be placed on process, play, and intentional decision-making rather than finished outcomes alone. In other words, participants are artistic explorers on an exciting expedition. The workshop will integrate painting, mark making, and surface manipulation, encouraging students to develop both technical confidence and conceptual curiosity. While demonstrations and guided exercises will anchor each session, ample time will be provided for individual exploration and reflection as well as specific acrylic pastes, gels and art tools to be used by the attendees. This course is suitable for artists with some prior experience in painting or mixed media who are interested in broadening their material vocabulary and working in a series-based approach. Prerequisite: Some experience in painting or mixed media.
